FLORA STUDIO x heather miller

BEGINNINGS - blue mountains,

I am Heather Miller, a Blue Mountains based artist. I am a botanical and eco colourist, photographer, business owner, and mother. Originally ‘Flora Folk’, I began dyeing woollen socks at home in my kitchen, with two young boys.

WELCOME TO MY COLOURFUL WORLD

COLOUR - dyeing, light, beauty, life, photography

I play with colour. It is my passion and it exists in all aspects of my life - dress, dyeing, photography, design.

NATURE - through colour towards healing - natural fibres, dyes, eco (sustainability) - fire and flood - change

Change (as part of NATURE?) - Flora Folk became Flora Studio, encompassing all creative endeavours, and allowing me to showcase my passion for creating, community, art and connection with my audience.

Flora has grown with me, and has become a character of her own. I’d like to share that character and her story with you, through an immersive and ongoing tale. Mailing list

Nature is movement, and it is through movement that we are able to heal.

My deep love for nature is what led me to plant pigments and extracts initially, colouring silks, wools, linens etc. I have since developed and am also using ecologically friendly and sustainable dyes from…

The process is deeply connective and full of intention, which is part of what I offer my customers; intentional connection through colour.

This connection flows through everything, which is why I was able to create, with friends and fellow mothers, Amber Hearn and Kevina Jo Smith, our store Fire and Flood, and gallery Landslide, in Wentworth Falls.

COMMUNITY - fire and flood - landslide - mtns made - photography

As a creative, I have a strong sense of community and collaboration. The concept of Fire and Flood came out of a time of deep change and resilience for the Blue Mountains community, and myself personally - our gallery space Landslide, also stems from the same notion; that through movement, individually, as a collective, and as part of nature, we create and heal.

At Fire and Flood, we aim to promote and celebrate local makers with a focus on natural and handmade products in our store. Link ff website

At Landslide, we offer workshop and studio spaces, artist residencies and a gallery. Link landslide website

In line with this celebration of Blue Mountains creatives, Kevina and myself work with Mtns Made, a platform supporting the creative economy of the Mountains. My role in this includes photography, another of my passions.

My love for light and colour has led me to a great love for designing and capturing those moments. I provide photography for individuals wishing to update their portfolio, businesses in need of a refresh. Link
